These terms govern your use of www.econdoctor.com and every tool on it, and the purchase of EconDoctor coins. Please read section 7 in particular before you buy anything.
1. Who you are contracting with
EconDoctor is published and operated by Dr Sylvain Hours, an individual domiciled in Switzerland, reachable at admin@econdoctor.com. Full details are in the Legal Notice.
2. Accepting these terms
Creating an account, or buying coins, means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not create an account.
We may change these terms. If a change matters to you (price, what you get, your rights), we will announce it on the site or by email at least 30 days before it takes effect, and you may close your account before then. Coins you have already bought keep the value they had when you bought them.
3. Who may use EconDoctor
- You must be at least 16 years old to open an account on your own. Under 16, you need your parent, guardian or school to agree on your behalf and to accept these terms for you.
- One account per person. Do not share your password, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account.
- The details you give us must be accurate, in particular an email address you actually control: it is how we verify the account and reset the password.
- Teachers who bring students onto the platform are responsible for checking that their school allows it.
4. What the service is
EconDoctor offers Economics teaching resources and study tools: glossary and quiz games, revision planning, real world examples, and AI-assisted feedback on Internal Assessments, Extended Essays and exam answers.
Most of the site is free. The AI tools cost coins, which you buy in advance.
5. The AI tools: what they are and what they are not
- The feedback is produced by an automated language model. It is indicative: it is not a mark, not an IB grade, not a prediction of your result, and not a guarantee of any outcome.
- It can be wrong. Check anything that matters against the official IB subject guide and your own teacher.
- Academic integrity is yours. Use the feedback to improve your own work. Submitting text produced by the tool as your own writing breaches the IB's rules on academic honesty and use of AI, and we accept no responsibility for the consequences of doing so.
- What you submit is sent to OpenAI to be processed. Do not put anything confidential in it. See the Privacy Policy, section 4.1.
6. What you may not do
- Copy, resell, redistribute or republish the site's content, or use it to build or train a competing product;
- Scrape, crawl or bulk-download the site, or run automated requests against the tools;
- Get round the coin system, the paywall, or the rate limits;
- Upload anything unlawful, abusive, or that you have no right to upload, including someone else's work or personal data;
- Attack, probe or disrupt the service or its infrastructure.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules. Where that happens for a serious breach, unused coins are not refunded.
7. Coins, prices and payment
7.1 What a coin is
A coin is a prepaid credit that pays for one unit of use of the AI tools. The number of coins a given analysis costs is shown before you run it. Coins are not money, not a payment instrument, and cannot be exchanged back into cash. They do not expire while your account exists; teachers may transfer coins to their own students inside the platform.
7.2 Prices
Prices are shown in euros on the purchase page, inclusive of any applicable taxes, before you confirm. The current packs are 10 coins for EUR 5, 20 for EUR 8, 50 for EUR 16 and 100 for EUR 25. We may change prices for future purchases; the price that applies is the one displayed when you buy.
7.3 Payment and delivery
Payment goes through Stripe. Coins are credited to your account as soon as Stripe confirms the payment, normally within seconds. Your receipt comes from Stripe by email. If a payment succeeds but the coins do not appear, write to admin@econdoctor.com with the Stripe receipt and we will fix it.
7.4 Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have 14 days from the day you buy a coin pack to withdraw from that purchase, without giving a reason. Your coins are still credited immediately, so that you can use the tools straight away: we do not ask you to give up those 14 days in exchange, and we do not charge you for the coins you spent during them.
To withdraw, write to admin@econdoctor.com from the address on your account, saying which purchase you mean. Any other clear statement to the same effect works too. We refund the full price of that pack to the card or account you paid with, at the latest 14 days after you tell us, and we remove the corresponding coins from your account.
7.5 Refunds after the 14 days
Once the 14 days have passed, coins are not refundable: they cannot be exchanged back into money, whether you have spent them or not.
Two things are not affected by this:
- If a tool fails and burns a coin without producing a result, tell us and we put the coin back on your account. That is a correction, not a refund;
- Your statutory rights as a consumer, where the law does not allow them to be excluded, in particular if the service is defective.
Buy the pack that matches what you actually intend to use. If you are not sure, start with the smallest one.
8. Your content
Everything you write or upload stays yours. To run the service we need a limited licence to store your content, display it back to you and to the teacher you are linked to, and send it to our AI processor to produce the analysis you asked for. That licence covers nothing else: we do not publish your work, do not share it with other users, and do not use it to promote the site. It ends when you delete the content or your account.
9. Availability
We try to keep the site up, but it is run by one person: there is no guaranteed uptime, and maintenance, outages or a failure at a third-party provider may interrupt it. We may change or retire a feature. If we ever retire a paid feature for good, we will say so in advance and leave you a reasonable period to use the coins you already hold.
10. Liability
The site is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost marks, lost opportunities or lost data, and our total liability for any claim is capped at what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury, for intentional wrongdoing or gross negligence, or any liability that the law does not allow to be excluded, including the mandatory consumer rights of your country of residence.
11. Closing your account
You may delete your account at any time from Settings. Deleting it removes your personal data as described in the Privacy Policy and forfeits any unspent coins, which are not refunded, so use them before you delete it. We may close an account that has broken these terms, or that has been inactive for more than three years, after telling you.
12. Complaints and disputes
Start by writing to admin@econdoctor.com: most things are settled that way within a few days.
These terms are governed by Swiss law, and the courts of the publisher's domicile in Switzerland have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of your own country of residence, and you keep the right to bring proceedings before the courts of that country.
13. Miscellaneous
If a clause turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Failing to enforce a right straight away does not waive it. These terms, with the Privacy Policy, the Cookie Policy and the Legal Notice, are the whole agreement between us.
